New York, NY - A few days ago, the folks from the Futbol Artist Network contacted me and asked if I would be interested in interviewing Sebastian Domenech, the artist commissioned by them to create the New York Cosmos Officially Licensed Artwork.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I jumped at the opportunity. As a result, I was emailed this brilliant artwork.

See the combination of past and present, Domenech’s artwork triggered my nostalgic and optimistic emotions. Seeing Pelé, Carlos Alberto, Giorgio Chinaglia and Franz Beckenbauer in one side passing the ball to Marcos Senna behind the city landscape was a nice touch.

From my understanding, Pelé signed 25 prints, including the original artwork at the Cosmos Legends Gala at Gotham Hall in Manhattan on Thursday night. For more information, please go to FutbolArtistNetwork.com.

With that said, here’s my interview with Sebastian Domenech:

What came first, your love for soccer or art?

The love for soccer, I’m a frustrated footballer who plays soccer all the time. I believe Soccer and Art have so much in common.

How did you get into football illustrations?

Professionally, I’ve been doing this for more than 10 years. As a kid, I would spend my time drawing soccer players and the different situations that appears in a match.

Where are you currently based?

I was born in Los Angeles, California. My parents are from Argentina and as a child, we relocated back. Currently, I live in Buenos Aires and I am proud of my culture.

What is the name of your artwork?

Mmmm, I don’t have a specific name for my work. My intention is solely to cultivate soccer through Art.

How long did it take you to complete the artwork and what you want the audience to feel?

About a week. The idea was put together the glory days and the things to come about the Cosmos. In addition, I wanted the work to show Cosmos legends “passing the ball” / passing the torch to the new players of this generation.

Where can soccer fans see your work?

Much of my work appears throughout several publications here in Argentina such as La Nación newspaper, Un Caño magazine. You can also find my artwork in the European magazine, Líbero de España.

For anyone who wants to hire you, how can they reach you?

I can be reached in Twitter at @domenechs and my website, SebastianDomenech.com.ar.
