NEW YORK - Four matches into the NASL Fall Season and the 1-1-2 New York Cosmos are currently in seventh 7th place and 3rd place overall in combined standings. After falling 1-0 at home to the Carolina RailHawks, the Cosmos face FC Edmonton on Wednesday night at Shuart Stadium.
As of right now, the Cosmos has failed to live up to their expectations. Despite a strong defensive performance, the team failed to win the NASL Spring Season. Despite defeating the Brooklyn Italians and the Red Bulls in the Lamar U.S. Open Cup, the Cosmos failed get past the Philadelphia Union. In addition, the Cosmos failed to sign Raúl.
With 14 games remaining, the Cosmos need for several key players to fully heal from their injuries so they can find their flow and start scoring goals. This is a long season and in order for the Cosmos to enter the postseason, their players need to be healthy so they can finish in the top-four in overall points.
While a 1-1-2 start isn’t the ideal start many of us expected from the Cosmos, it’s not the end of the season. As the old saying goes, “it’s not how your start, it’s how you finish.” In the case of the Cosmos, they need to finish strong.
