NEW YORK – New York Cosmos midfielder Andrés Flores has been named to the El Salvador national team roster for the 2014 UNCAF Copa Centroamericana tournament from Sept. 3-13.
El Salvador was drawn into Group A of the tournament and will play matches against Guatemala at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C., on Sept. 3, Honduras at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 7, and Belize at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Sept. 10.
The fifth place match, third place match, and championship match will take place on Sept. 13 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The top two teams from Group A and Group B automatically qualify for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, while the Copa Centroamericana champion qualifies for the 2016 Copa América Centenario.
Flores has made 31 appearances for the El Salvador senior national team, with his debut appearance coming in 2008 against Trinidad & Tobago. Flores has also served as captain for the national team, most recently on June 7, 2014, in a friendly match versus Spain in Washington D.C.
Flores has made six appearances (5 starts) and scored one goal and recorded one assist for the Cosmos since joining the team on loan from A.D. Isidro Metapán on July 18, 2014.
