New York, NY - The 5 Points have voted and congratulations to the New York Cosmos midfielder Danny Szetela for being named the 2014 5 Points Player of the Year. Here’s what Danny had to say about receiving this honor:

Thank you all from the 5 points who voted for me. You guys are the best! I can’t wait for another season with the 5 points in the stands. Borough Boys, Cross Island Crew, and La Banda Del Cosmos… 2015 is our Year!

Congratulations also goes to Dane Murphy who retired from the team so he can assume his new role as Head Scout and Performance Analyst for our New York Cosmos. I’ve know Dane for years and I’m happy for him. In a press release sent to me by the front office, here’s what he had to say:

“It was a difficult decision for me since I feel that I can still contribute on the field. “However, the opportunity as head scout and to become immersed in the technical evaluation and analysis of players was one that I couldn’t pass up.”

For those of you who are unaware, Murphy’s history with the Cosmos extends back to 2011. During that time he captained the Cosmos U-23 squad in the USL Premier Development League, coached by current Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. Murphy signed with the Cosmos senior team on Feb. 13, 2013. In two seasons he made 10 appearances, four starts and compiled 350 minutes on the field.

With so much Cosmos news taking place, who will cover our team for the 2015 NASL year? Earlier today, the front office sent me an email stating that online publications such as ours can now apply for season credentials. The deadline to apply is February 20, 2015. If you’re interested in covering our boys in Green & White, email me at [email protected].

Speaking of coverage, here’s Covering Soccer 104 with Juan Mesa of Manzana Pecosa.
